Co-developed by ANSSI and Club EBIOS, the EBIOS Risk Manager methodology is the benchmark standard for analysing and managing digital risks in France and Europe. It enables organisations to adopt a scenario-based approach to accurately identify the cyber threats they face, evaluate potential impacts (financial, legal, reputational), and establish security measures tailored to their specific business objectives. The approach is structured around 5 practical workshops, ranging from project scoping through to risk treatment.
What is the EBIOS Risk Manager certification?
The EBIOS Risk Manager certification provides official confirmation that an individual possesses the strategic and operational skills needed to assess cyber threats and structure a continuous improvement framework:
- Understanding the threat context: Ability to assess an organisation's security baseline and identify the wider cyber threat landscape.
- Attack scenario modelling: Capacity to build strategic scenarios (stakeholders, attacker intent) and operational scenarios (operating modes, attack paths).
- Determining security objectives: Skill in evaluating threat likelihood and setting security objectives proportionate to the risks involved.
- Remediation management: Ability to formalise a strategy to address cyber risks and embed the assessment into a continuous improvement process.
Exam Syllabus
To achieve certification, the exam validates your skills against the operational objectives of the five workshops in the EBIOS Risk Manager methodology:
- Workshop 1: Scope and security baseline
The objective is to initiate the risk assessment, define the study's scope, identify feared events, and evaluate the security baseline level. - Workshop 2: Risk sources
This workshop evaluates your ability to identify risk sources (threat actors) and their strategic objectives regarding the organisation. - Workshop 3: Strategic scenarios
Here, the goal is to map the organisation's ecosystem and assess the likelihood of overall attack paths. - Workshop 4: Operational scenarios
The objective is to model attackers' technical operating modes (such as APT-style attacks) targeting critical assets. - Workshop 5: Risk treatment
This final step validates your capacity to define the remediation strategy, summarise residual risks, and establish their ongoing monitoring.

How to prepare?
To guarantee complete impartiality in your personnel certification, LSTI acts strictly as an independent certification body and does not deliver training directly.
Depending on your situation, 2 preparation pathways are available for the exam:
- Register directly for the LSTI exam as a self-study candidate.
This option is aimed primarily at professionals who already master the framework and possess relevant practical experience. - Complete a training course beforehand with an LSTI-approved training provider.
This option is ideal for consolidating your theoretical skills and thoroughly addressing all framework requirements prior to taking the exam.
How does the exam work?
The EBIOS Risk Manager exam is taken online on our secure platform.
To ensure the integrity of the certification (in compliance with ISO/IEC 17024 requirements), remote proctoring is used. You must have a computer equipped with a working webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection. Candidate identity is verified prior to the start of the test.
Awarding certification status
Your certification depends solely on your exam result.
At LSTI, you can then enhance it through the award of an additional grade based on your level of experience. The issuing of this grade rests on the combination of two criteria: your exam achievement level and your practical experience.
Exam achievement levels:
In accordance with the LSTI certification regulations, the title awarded to you attests to a level based on your final score out of 100 points:
- Elementary: Score between 50 and 59.
- Intermediate: Score between 60 and 74.
- Advanced: Score of 75 or higher.
Certification Regulations
The EBIOS Risk Manager personnel certification has an official validity period of 3 years.
