What is MIE certification?

MIE certification is based on article L. 102 of the French Post and Electronic Communications Code, which introduces the notion of presumption of reliability. This text also incorporates references from the eIDAS regulation on security requirements for electronic identification media.
This certification is aimed at any company providing an electronic identification service or product.
The specifications for the evaluation of these MIEs, as well as their presumption of reliability, were determined by ANSSI in July 2022.
Three levels of guarantee have been set, to meet specific technical and procedural requirements: low, substantial and high. Please note that ANSSI will not issue certification for any MIE aiming for the low guarantee level.
Although this certification is voluntary, it becomes mandatory if a company wishes its EIM to benefit from the presumption of reliability.
It may also be a first step towards eIDAS qualification.
